Dato’ Charon Mokhzani, our Group Managing Director, was invited to participate in An EU-Malaysian Dialogue on Fighting Climate Change with Market Mechanisms which was held at Ritz Carlton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, 25 May 2022.
Organised by the French Embassy in Malaysia and the French Presidency of The Council of the European Union, the hybrid programme comprised of 3 roundtable discussions on the following topics:

Building A Carbon Market in Malaysia: Opportunities and Challenges
Carbon Trading and International Trade
In addition to Dato’ Charon Mokhzani, the roundtable participants included Martin Hession of International Carbon Markets Policy and Negotiations, DG CLIMA, EU Commission, Ruben Vermeeren, Policy Officer, DG CLIMA, EU Commission, Julien Viau, Head of Carbon Markets Unit, French Ministry of the Ecological Transition, Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA), Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, Joseph Dixon Callisto Pryor, Senior Climate Change Specialist at World Bank, Charlotte Wolff-Bye, Chief Sustainability Officer at PETRONAS and Lynette Siow, Managing Director for Malaysia & Singapore, St. Gobain. Moderators for the roundtable sessions were Khoo Hsu Chuang of BFM Radio, Datin Seri Sunita Rajakumar, Founder and Director of Climate Governance Malaysia and Dato’ Seri Johan Raslan, Council Member of Climate Governance Malaysia.
H.E. Michalis Rokas, Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Malaysia delivered the welcome address followed by opening remarks by H.E. Roland Galharague, the Ambassador of France to Malaysia, and then the keynote address by Tan Sri Sir Francis Yeoh, Executive Chairman of YTL Corporation Berhad. The closing remarks were delivered by Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, President of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club.
