Among the challenges faced by mamak restaurant owners include how the Government’s strict policy on foreign labour intake has affected the operation hours of 24-hour mamak restaurants, how the new minimum wage and rising costs of raw material, as well as food inflation, has put the pressure on these owners who have no choice but to raise their prices, directly affecting their consumers, for them to maintain a profit margin.

Representatives from PRESMA who attended the discussion included its President, Dato’ Jawahar Ali Taib Khan, Deputy President Datuk Mohammed Mosin bin Abdul Razak, Vice Presidents, En. Muhinulla Khan Omar Khan, Datuk Hj. Mohamed Ali Jinna Mathan Gani, En. Abdul Hamid Abdul Muthalif, En. Abdul Mukhtahir M Ibrahim as well as other committee members. MIDF was represented by 6 people including En. Zafri Zulkeffeli En. Abdul Mui’zz Morhalim and Pn. Shamim Hashim. The discussion was also attended by analysts and economists from Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP), Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), SME Bank and Philip CapitalMIDF Research held focus group discussion with Persatuan Pengusaha Restoran Muslim Malaysia (PRESMA)MIDF Research held focus group discussion with Persatuan Pengusaha Restoran Muslim Malaysia (PRESMA)
