Dr. Mohamad Sabri Zakaria retires as Chairman of MIDF Amanah Investment Bank's Shariah Committee
MIDF's Group Secretarial and Legal (GSL) hosted a farewell lunch for the retirement of Dr. Mohamad Sabri Zakaria as Chairman of the Shariah Committee for MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad (MAIB), on Monday 20 March 2023 at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur.
The lunch, which was held in appreciation of his guidance and commitment to the Group was attended by MIDF Group board and Shariah Committee members as well as representatives of the Senior Management team.
Dr. Mohamad Sabri officially retires as Chairman of the Shariah Committee for MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad on 31 March 2023.
Dr. Mohamad Sabri has been a member of MIDF’s Shariah Committee since 18 June 2013 and was appointed as Chairman of the Shariah Committee for MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad on 1 April 2021.
He has played a crucial role in ensuring that all activities and businesses of the bank and its related companies comply with the principles of Islamic law and do not contain any elements which are not in line with Shariah.
In addition to his roles with the Group, Dr. Mohamad Sabri, a registered Shariah Advisor with the Securities Commission, also served on the Shariah Committees of several other organisations including Great Eastern Takaful Sdn. Bhd. (2010-2022), Agro Bank (2013-2021) and Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad (2006-2012).
Currently he is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Fiqh & Usul Fiqh, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge & Human Sciences, IIUM since 1993.
He graduated from the Faculty of Syariah al-Azhar University, Cairo in 1992 and obtained his Masters Degree in Islamic Economic from Yarmouk University, Jordan in 1999. He also holds a Doctorate in Fiqh and Usul Fiqh from IIUM with a dissertation focusing on managing liquidity in Islamic banking.
